Humanness or a Hummer?

"Sorry, the Universe told you?"
"That you would leave your job?"
"Yep."
"In advance?"
"Yes."
"You mean figuratively?"
"No. I mean literally"

I'm on another couch. Fabric. Not leather. Finally, a vegan-appropriate seating situation. Eating burgers. My sister's dog is sick and I'm in charge.

I'm catching up with a friend I haven't seen in a while. A lawyer and pragmatist. With a tender heart. She is trying hard to understand the methodology and mechanics of how exactly the "universe talks to me." The conversation is flowing.

Until.

I tell her the universe told me I'd be leaving my job. In four days' time. In a toilet.

The universe always talks more clearly in ablution blocks.

I listened. Four days later, left the highest paying job I've ever had.

Because it told me to.

She thought I was joking. Speaking symbolically, metaphorically.

No. I meant literally.

This response is not new. I get it often.

Accustomed to the spectrum of eye rolling endearment to inspired curiosity. With the odd heaped spoon of 'what in the world is this woo-woo whack-job banging on about?'

This is exactly why I've spent my life hiding from you. Who I am. The gifts I have. The power it brings. The fine line between magic and madness. Brilliance. And burden.

Today, I choose to experience it differently. As a companion not a curse. A channel, not challenge. A complement not a conflict.

And a serious competitive advantage.

Research evidences Spirituality in business acts as a unique form of "capital" encompassing spiritual intelligence. Leaders embodying mindfulness, compassion, ethical values are viewed more effective, linking spirituality directly to stronger leadership, enhanced performance, healthier teams and culture.

Spirituality, at its core is also tangible and practical. It can be tested, measured and evidence based. Learned. And taught.

The conversion of highly esoteric outer-worldly concepts into every day simple accessible tasks, rituals and routines.

And I'm making a business out of it. Because that's what I was told to do. By the small voice, within. From the sense of something far bigger, without.

It's not unique to me. Or unavailable to you. It's not woo-woo. It's wisdom. Not a superpower but a human power. We all have it. We can all access it.

It's a conscious choice as to whether we will.

As for me, irrespective of how many minutes I meditate. How long I chant. How many trees I hug. Crickets I relocate. The true test of my spirituality can be measured by answering one simple question:

‘How many cars did I let merge in front of me today whilst driving?’

That's where spirituality really lives. Not in crystals or the cosmos. In the merging lane. In the moments you choose patience over speed. Connection over competition. Humanness over a Hummer.

My lawyer friend still doesn't understand how the universe talks to me in toilets. Or how it is even possible to hear.

But she knows there's something else going on.

And now, that the mechanics of spirituality aren’t performed in temples.

But practiced in traffic.
